April 13 Marathon completed! It was perfect weather for a marathon. What a great little race. It was the first annual Davey Crockett Bear Chase and though it was small it was wonderful. I made two mistakes. First I got the wrong start time so I started about 19 minutes last. Second I really could have used some allergy medication. By the time I hit the 17th mile I couldn't take a deep breath. I had to walk the last 9 miles. But out of sixty I came in 44th. Yes only sixty folks ran the marathon. But it was great anyway. There was also a half marathon, a 2-person Marathon Relay, 5K, Li'l Critter Possum Walk, Bear Chaise ( folks sitting in chairs cheering the runners on). Beautiful rural, mostly flat route that went along and through the Davey Crockett National Park. I can't say enough good about this event. It was perfect. April 10 Marathon!Saturday I drive to Groveton, TX (where?) to do a marathon. It's a small town north of Houston but the run is a Boston qualifier. I'm not going to qualify this year. I'm hoping to improve my time. Up to now I have walked marathons. Usually my times are 7-7:20. I plan on running some of it and hoping I can do better than 6 hours. Not much running I know but I've learned, especially with my body starting to exhibit the creaks and groans of getting older, not to set the bar too high at first. I would be thrilled to do it in less than 6. Okay so in the back of my mind I keep thinking closer to 5. I've got a good pair of shoes, some nice new running clothes that I've worked with and I'm down to 151. I'm feeling good about it. Today I'm going to get a two hour massage, tomorrow-my pre run epsom salt bath and post run-a lot of stretching and another epsom salt bath. The temperatures have been good here in south Texas so I don't anticipate any problems there. I'm ready for fun!
VOTE the way Ali and Kelly would have. March 04 WorkoutsI had a couple of good workouts yesterday and today. I actually ran six mile in one hour yesterday! Okay it was on the treadmill at the gym, but I'm going to try actually running on the street tomorrow. Today I did a half hour warm up and the one hour with a trainer. I think I'm turning into a gym rat. I love working out. March 01 Triathlon at the gym.I haven't done well with my weight the last couple weeks. I actually gained two pounds in February. Today I felt I needed to do something to redeem myself. So I went to the gym to do a triathlon. One hour each of swimming, stationary bike, and treadmill. I swam .82 miles, biked 20 and ran/walked 5. And I feel great! I really needed to do this to boost my self confidience. It's nice to know I'm in shape enough to do a tri again. Now I just need to loose some weight so my times will be better. February 27 Tower of the Americas ClimbSaturday, Feb 23 my son and I participated in the Cystic Fibrosis Tower Climb. It started with a one mile walk/run then went to the 952 steps(64 stories). We Did It!! My son beat me on the mile. I passed him up on the steps. We both did the event in under 25 minutes! It was great fun. Most impressive were the members of the San Antonio Fire Department who did the climb in full gear. At the top they had some breakfast to eat. I was looking forward to the view but it was foggy and you could barely see a mile. I'll be doing it again next year. I've set a goal of and eight minute mile (I did an eleven) and ten minute climb with no stopping (I took five thirty second breaks. Next up I'm training for a marathon in April. Hopefully I will have lost another five or six pounds by then to make it easier. February 18 SlackerI have really slacked off. I missed playing by the rules so I'm now one less person you have to worry about in the competition. I think I need a head shrink. It's very hard for me to think of losing about twenty pounds as a big deal. There are so many people in this city who are very overweight that sometimes I don't feel like I'm all that fat. But I know that my weight puts me close to the edge of having to worry about health related problems. My mother is quite overweight and sometimes I feel like I should just give in to genetics. But I know that that is a lame excuse. I'm going to keep working on it though. Hopefully the nice spring weather we're having down here will help pull me out of thins funk. Yes, I know it's still winter but we're in the 70's, even 80's a couple of times a week. I would have a very hard time living somewhere where it snowed. February 03 Houston Galleria TourI made the trip to Houston this weekend to see the Biggest Loser Tour. It was fun and I met some great people. Kae and B are as nice as it seemed they were on the show. Here's the best of the photos that I took. Sorry the one of the line with my new friends didn't turn out too well 'cause of the sun. We all had a great time. I would like to especially thank the crew who set up and ran the event. You were all great and helped to make it enjoyable.
January 27 Weekly Weigh-InThis week I lost .8 pounds, Jerry gained .2 . So good for me and try again for him. We are both doing good at getting to the gym four to five times a week. We are optomistic about the wieght gain. We feel it could be from more muscle gain that fat loss, since it's been a while since he has exercised regularlly. I'll be doing more entries this week. I blame the cold weather for everything that didn't get accomplished last week. January 21 Week 2-Notoriously bad!Well, not completely bad. Jerry lost one pound (to 241.8)and I lost .4 pounds (to 154.4). At least I know that I'm not the only one who's ever had a bad second week. It makes it easier to keep plodding ahead. At least it's a little bit more than Amanda lost during her week two. I think our big downfall was the weather. Waking up to 20 and 30 degree weather makes it real easy to skip out on or shorten the dogs' walks. In Texas the cold weather doesn't last too long. "Onward, ever onward!" January 15 Tuesday Night! Biggest Loser's ON!Yeah! One of my tv nights. The other is Friday for the Dog Whisperer. I took a couple of shots of some more of the stuff I do at home. Wii is great! I can't wait for Wii Fit to come out. You can get quite a good workout with it. The other shot is my Christmas present. Yes, I know I'm weird. I feels so good to invert and let gravity pull everything the opposite direction. I do this one to three times a day.Jerry doesn't do this because of vertigo. It's a great way to relax. |
